Architectural Work
Compton Hospice, Wolverhampton
Compton Hospice is a Wolverhampton based charity which has been supporting patients facing a life-limiting illness and their families for over 40 years. I was asked by the Hospice to establish an art programme in collaboration with patients, staff and bereaved family members.

Their resulting work was located in what was then the main Patients’ Lounge and comprised of a ‘Glass Memory Blanket’ based around the concept of American Native Indian dream catchers with memories captured as they rise up from the lounge into the sunlight of the light well. There was also a glass screen where participants captured their individual memories onto slips of glass and I then incorporated these into the screen which acted as a permanent memorial to former patients.

New College School Of Hospitality & Catering, Redditch

‘Archers’ Restaurant was situated within the Hospitality and Catering Department on the Redditch Campus of what is now the Heart of Worcestershire College. The restaurant was a realistic working environment and was used by the students to gain knowledge and skills for their chosen industry.

I designed a glass wall located between the restaurant and the adjoining internal bar area. The purpose was to provide light into the latter but retain the privacy of the former. ‘The Four Seasons’ wall echoed the view from the Restaurant windows. It combined the colours reflected in the interior design scheme alongside sandblasted areas for privacy.

Brockencote Hall Hotel, Kidderminster

Brockencote Hall, now part of the Eden Hotel Collection, was a privately owned country house hotel located in Worcestershire where I had carried out the interior design throughout the building over a number of years.
The previous owners built a Conservatory with unrivalled views over unspoilt countryside and it was serviced by the adjoining bar. To allow staff to maintain customer contact, I created a glass window reflecting the courtyard planting which was installed between the two areas. It was constructed from cut glass shapes that were then fused with frits.  These were adhered onto a back glass which had been previously sandblasted.

Community projects
New Haven Mental Health Unit, Bromsgrove
I was appointed to work over a number of months in the new Mental Health Unit at New Haven Hospital in Bromsgrove.  I supported patients with both mental health issues and those living with dementia.  Working together, whilst creating in glass, enabled patients and staff to talk about themselves and share their memories of the countryside around Bromsgrove, celebrating Nature in its various forms.
The glass artwork  created was installed onto the existing windows in the various ward reception areas.

Notre Dame High School, Norwich
“Aspire and Soar” was a collaborative work organised by me which included every member of the School.  It celebrated the School’s 150th anniversary and was themed around the its ethos of aiming high.  Everyone researched and designed a bird element in paper and paint and added a phrase linked to the theme of the artwork.
A smaller number of pupils then took these phrases representing the importance of education and incorporated them into the glass birds they created which then flew up towards the glass artwork created by myself.  My artwork showed a bird’s eye view of a maze – representing the twists and turns of life – which was populated by pupils and staff who had been at the School since its foundation.

St. Michael’s Catholic Primary School, Wolverhampton
The School had converted a classroom into a Chapel and wanted a unique and special window created with the whole School involved in the project. I developed a theme for the wall of windows which was based on the circle of life shown through the changing seasons. These were represented by trees which also symbolised the crosses at Calvary.
I worked with every member of the School community. Each of the youngest children in Nursery and Reception created a flower for the ground around the trees whilst the rest of the School and the Staff each created a leaf with a message on it. I then developed the different elements into the finished work.

Sexual Health Centre, Corbridge
Sexual Health Centre, Corbridge was commissioned to work with Galaxy – a lesbian, gay, bisexual and transgender young people’s group to create artwork for the new Sexual Health Centre at Cobridge, Stoke-on-Trent. The intention was to make the new building more user-friendly and welcoming, especially for young people.
The glasswork was themed around STIs under magnification and the group created circles of glass which, whilst looking beautiful and colourful, carried a message about self respect and taking care of oneself. The finished work was installed onto the entrance screen in the Main Reception.  Digital images of the work were also applied to the windows in the Reception Waiting Area.

“Looking In, Looking Out” – The Infirmary Museum, Worcester
I was commissioned by the Infirmary Museum – part of Worcester University – to work with people living with dementia and their carers.  I was involved with a large number of participants over several months who came from dementia cafes, care homes and local clubs.  Together, the groups looked at what home meant to them and developed glass work pieces starting with individual items that were important, progressing through the home until they viewed the world outside. .
The completed pieces were assembled into house forms to denote the exploration of the inner world and the confidence needed to explore the outside.  The resulting exhibition was part of the Worcester Festival.
