Sussex Prairie Gardens
Sussex Prairie Gardens at Morlands Farm, Wheatsheaf Rd, Henfield BN5 9AT is Britain’s largest “Prairie” or “Naturalistic” garden, with eight acres of stunning garden to roam around.
This is my first external sculpture exhibition. The gardens are so inspiring and the relationship between the plants and my work changes as every day the garden produces new growth. My work looks spectacular placed amongst the drought-resistant perennials and grasses which will continue to grow throughout the summer and autumn.

Ammonites £325.00 each
There are two ammonite studies placed onto black steel stands located into flower beds. Ammonites lie buried for millennia only to reappear in a form that is a ghostly echo of their original forms. The Ammonites address this return by imagining the thousands of seasons that they have lain dormant in the rock. Each piece celebrates the colours of the seasons that they have been shut away from but can once again experience as they are exposed to the sun light and natural elements once again.

Glass House £650.00
The pandemic saw us all confined to our homes and local environs. One of the major sensations that I missed was the excitement and enjoyment of travelling to and enjoying other landscapes, buildings and societies. This is the first of a series of Glass Houses that I intend to create that will celebrate places that I miss or that I will now probably never get to physically see. This reminds me of my former home in Norfolk’s Poppy Land.

"Nova Zembla” Duet £280.00 each
200mm dia fused glass rondel on a metal frame
The glass pairing based on the “Nova Zembla” documents a ship that was part of the last Arctic whaling fleet in Britain. The “Nova Zembla” sank in a fjord off Baffin Bay in Canada in September, 1902, although fortunately all of the crew were saved. The British fleet lost more than 200 vessels in the Arctic seas and none had been found until the wreck of the “Nova Zembla” was discovered in 2019. The duet features the ship sailing off into the cold seas and then in pursuit of a whale. It chronicles man’s exploitation of the sea and the perils that are faced to make a living.

“The Shoal - Seaward Bound” £490.00
300mm dia fused glass rondel on a metal frame
“The Shoal - Seaward Bound” is the first of a series of fish based freestanding works. These will capture the essence of movement amongst the currents and tides that fish live within. The collection will highlight the fragility of our relationship with the sea and the delicate balance between searching for food and exploiting such a natural and beautiful resource.
All my work highlights the beauty of glass and the way that it reflects colour, texture and light. I work with a range of glass elements in a cold state which I manipulate and assemble before firing and fusing them in a kiln. The different types of glass that I use include sheet, frits, confetti, stringers and paints.

Ammonites
There is something totally fascinating about ammonite forms and their journey through history. Ammonites lie buried for millennia only to reappear in a form that is a ghostly echo of their original forms. The Ammonite Range addresses this return by imagining the thousands of seasons that they have lain dormant in the rock, now land based rather than part of the evolutionary seascape. Each piece celebrates the colours of the seasons that they have been shut away from but can once again experience as they are exposed to the sun light and natural elements once again.
I make pieces of patterned glass using a variety of glass elements. After fusing, these are then cut up into the shapes of the ammonite and fused onto a cut out glass backboard. Finally, the ammonite form is grouted with a glass mixture and fired again. It is then mounted and framed.

Jigsaw
The pandemic dislocated so many of us from the lives we used to live and continues to do so. During this period I became increasingly fascinated by creating patterns out of life’s chaos – maybe a way of exerting control over uncontrollable situations.
The Jigsaw Collection looks at this shattering of normality. I have created my own patterned sheets of glass. I then cut and reassembled them into a collage of juxtaposed pieces that fit together – but not quite. Just as our lives will never fit together quite so snugly again.
